The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) is administering bivalent COVID-19 vaccines per updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Register for an appointment on MyTurn.CA.gov. Walk-ins are also welcome every Monday and Wednesday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (closed for lunch 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) For questions regarding available vaccines, contact PPHD’s immunization clinic at (626) 744-6309.
At PPHD COVID-19 vaccine clinics, individuals previously vaccinated for COVID-19 will need to bring proof of previous COVID-19 vaccination history, which for most people will be in the form of the white vaccination card, a photo of the white card, or a digital record.
PPHD encourages everyone who is eligible to stay up to date on vaccines and booster doses. Masking is strongly recommended, but not required, for everyone regardless of vaccination status. Wearing a well-fitted surgical mask or respirator (e.g., N95, KN95, KF94) in indoor public spaces can reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission to others.
Requirements for Healthcare Workers: In Pasadena, all healthcare workers must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Healthcare workers are required to wear a well-fitted mask when working in patient care areas.
COVID-19 State of Emergency Update:
Although the COVID-19 State of Emergency has ended, Californians continue to have access to vaccines, testing, and treatment to fight COVID-19. Currently, many of these services remain free to individuals, regardless of insurance coverage.

All currently authorized COVID-19 vaccines have gone through rigorous studies to ensure they are safe and effective.
The bivalent COVID-19 vaccine contains components of the original COVID-19 strain and the omicron variant to provide broad protection against COVID-19.
On April 18th, 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) deauthorized the use of the monovalent Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines, which acted as the “original” primary series vaccines to provide protection against COVID-19. The Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 bivalent MRNA vaccines are now authorized to be used for all doses administered to individuals 6 months of age and older. The recommended number of bivalent doses varies by age, vaccine, previous COVID-19 vaccines received, and the presence of moderate or severe immunocompromised conditions. COVID-19 vaccines help our bodies develop immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19 without us having to get the illness. It typically takes two weeks for the body to produce antibodies after vaccination. Therefore, it is possible that a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 just before or just after vaccination and then get sick because the vaccine did not have enough time to provide protection.
Being fully vaccinated with your primary series is not the same as having the best protection. People are best protected when they stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations, which includes getting a booster dose when eligible. People who are fully vaccinated and boosted are much less likely to be infected with COVID-19 and much less likely to spread the virus to others. Some evidence suggests that vaccination may make illness less severe for those who experience a breakthrough infection and get sick.
No. People with COVID-19 who have symptoms should wait to be vaccinated until they have recovered from their illness and have met the criteria for ending isolation. Those without symptoms should also wait until they meet the criteria before getting vaccinated.

You may have some possible side effects which are normal signs that your body is building protection. Side effects may feel like the flu and even affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away in a few days.
