Angels have wings, but you know what else do? Mosquitos.
Victoria’s Secret spent years convincing women that their hot pink shop was their ticket to beauty. Size zeros were in and anything short of 6-foot was out.
The newly released docuseries, “Victoria’s Secret: Angels And Demons” investigates this dark lingerie veracity, revealing the VS angel dream was anything but.
Instead, the Victoria’s Secret empire turned out to be an unpleasant, disturbing materiality. And you know what else is unpleasant and disturbing? You guessed it: mosquitos.
In a jaw-dropping series of events, the luxe brand once hailed for the pink and black Bombshell bra is now being turned to for mosquito repellant. No, VS isn’t selling glittery bottles of bug spray (though, we’d probably buy some if they did). Rather, TikTok users are reaching for their Victoria’s Secret Bombshell fragrance.
It all started when TikTok user @absolutely.lm posted a short video on July 2.
If you dont believe me go check for yourself ! 🙌🏼 option for city folk. BETTER smelling than repellant. Deet may last longer tho. #fyp #mosquitos #deadlymosquitoes #mosquitorepellant #mosquitohack #victoriassecret #bombshell #amberromance #amber #girlhacks #forthegirls #beautyhacks #viral #virus
“Amber Romance and Bombshell by Victoria’s Secret have been proven scientifically to prevent mosquitos better than repellent,” said the TikTok content creator while referencing a 2015 study from The Journal of Insect Science.
While it seems a bit out there, she isn’t wrong. The study does indeed discuss the effects of fan-favorite VS fragrances (which you can shop here).
We took a look at the study, and it read, “Victoria Secret Bombshell (Fragrance type: Fruity floral notes: Purple passion fruit, Shangri-la peony, Vanilla orchid [2015] ) has shown to be a strong repellent with effects lasting longer than 120 min.”
Though, the study explains that the concentration of perfume tested was “rather high” and that “lower concentrations of the same fragrance might have different effects.”
However, we didn’t see a mention of Amber Romance mentioned in the 2015 study, but maybe it’s still worth a shot. Either way, it smells divine, so it’ll be well worth your buck.
So, does the Victoria’s Secret Bombshell actually repel mosquitos? According to the study, it actually does, and we are just as shocked as you are.
With that said, we don’t recommend throwing out your bottles of DEET-based sprays or PARA’KITO mosquito bracelets (which work amazing by the way). Instead, we’d properly protect ourselves from the pests and spritz on some yummy smelling VS fragrances separately.
